Join the incoming administration
Work for the new sheriff
Rural policing is not for everyone. Deputies here cover wide territory, wait longer for backup, and carry real responsibility from the first shift. If that is the work you want, the incoming administration wants to hear from you.
A word from Sheriff-Elect Michael A. Tulipat
I am building a team for a county that has been asked to do a great deal with very little. What I can promise you is straightforward: clear expectations, a chain of command that backs you when you do the job right, honest scheduling, and a paycheck that reflects the contract instead of a guess.
If you are already certified and looking for somewhere your experience actually matters, come talk to us. Lateral applicants are welcome and will be considered based on experience, with credit toward placement on the wage scale where the agreement allows. If you are new to the profession and serious about it, we will look at sponsoring you through a Nevada POST academy.
Interest is being collected now for the term that begins January 2027. Submitting this form does not create an offer of employment, and hiring authority begins with the term. Everything you send is kept on file and reviewed as positions are posted.
What the contract provides
Wages and benefits are set by the 2025-2029 collective bargaining agreement between the county and the deputies association. Here is what that means in plain terms.
Longevity that rewards staying
Under the 2025-2029 collective bargaining agreement, longevity pay increases 1 percent for each year of service after the fifth year, on top of the contract wage scale.
POST incentive pay
Additional pay for advanced certification: 2 percent for intermediate, 4 percent for advanced, and 6 percent for management, paid on top of base wage.
Education incentive
2 percent for an associate degree and 4 percent for a bachelor degree in a job-related field.
Specialty assignment pay
5 percent premium for assignments such as field training officer, investigations, K-9, and other designated specialty duties.
Shift differential
A differential for night shift hours, so the people covering the county after dark are paid for it.
Overtime, holidays, and comp time
Contract overtime at time and one half, premium holiday pay for holidays worked, and the option to bank comp time under the agreement.
Leave you can actually use
Accrued annual leave, sick leave, and banked comp time, with a scheduling system built so time off requests are answered instead of buried.
Uniforms and equipment provided
Duty uniforms, body armor, and issued equipment are provided under the agreement, with a uniform maintenance provision.
Incentives are cumulative where the agreement allows. Exact wage placement, accrual rates, and eligibility are governed by the agreement and county policy, and are confirmed in writing at the time of any offer.
